Aspiring young filmmakers and film lovers are invited to come along to the Powerhouse Youth Theatre in Fairfield on October 31 (6–8pm) for Y-FLICKZ, a youth film forum and shorts screening.
The evening is presented by Youth Digital Cultures – a partnership project of Granville-based organisation Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) and the Foundation for Young Australians.
The event will kick-off with a screening of five short films produced by young filmmakers from Western Sydney. The young directors will then be given the opportunity to take questions from the audience and to talk with special guest Craig Anderson about their work.
Craig Anderson will also give a short inspirational talk about the challenges and opportunities facing young filmmakers, drawing from his own experience as a multiple-award winning Australian filmmaker and writer.
ICE Director Lena Nahlous is excited about this youth-led initiative, and believes that “events such as Y-FLICKZ are an important acknowledgement of the contribution that Western Sydney filmmakers make to the industry.”
Youth Digital Cultures Project Officer, Fatima Mawas, adds: “Young people all over Western Sydney are actively making their own short films and distributing them on media networks like YouTube. Y-FLICKZ will give them the opportunity to share their experiences, learn from each other and have their works formally screened.”
Y-FLICKZ is funded by the Foundation for Young Australians, NSW Film and Television office and ArtStart.
