Introducing: Proboscis
In February 2008, UK-based artist-led studio Proboscis undertook a three and a half week residency at ICE, working intensively with a group of emerging young artists and cultural practitioners who are beginning to make noise in their creative fields and communities in Western Sydney.
Proboscis shared their ground-breaking techniques and practices in social mapping with these Western Sydney artists, who in turn had the opportunity to develop projects that engage creatively with the urban environment and culture.
Throughout the residency, members of the wider arts community engaged with the work and practices of Proboscis in a series of half-day intensive Exchange Labs and public symposium.
Young artist Kasama Yamtree travelled from Thailand to undertake the three-week workshop. Kasama is one of the members of CASE, a group of young architects and designers working with community and under-privileged areas.
The residency is supported by the British Council and the Foundation for Young Australians.
