Making a world of difference

Making a difference at ICE

Thanks to the Vodafone Australia Foundation World of Difference campaign, ICE’s resident MC Trey, a.k.a Thelma Thomas, is working at ICE for 12 months on inspiring urban music and Hip Hop projects to make a real difference in the lives of young people from Western Sydney.

ICE has been privileged to have the renowned Granville-based Hip-Hop artist on board full time to facilitate music workshops for unemployed young people. So far, she has delivered a music program for young women – Suburban Sistas, and African Soundz, making music with newly-arrived African youth. Trey’s programs will run until May 2007.

Trey is currently coordinating Hip Hop 101, an urban music program harnessing the lyric writing and beat making skills of up-and-coming Western Sydney talented musicians. They’re learning music production and industry-level IT skills. “It’s about pathways into TAFE and other educational and employment opportunities,” says Trey. “But also about their sheer talent!.”
