PARRAMATTA SCREENING

Parramatta is already home to a hive of film and media making. But there aren’t the same kinds of resources as there are in the east and north. Many film and media makers are working in isolation, often with limited support, not always plugged in to networks or opportunities.

Parramatta Screening is a three-year initiative to incubate and support local film and screen-based arts skills, networks and production capacity. A series of targeted projects, events and activities – it will bring together film and media makers, promote and connect local activity, and connect emerging artists to professional input and support.

Springboard

Parramatta Screening kicks off with SPRINGBOARD, an intensive short film workshop for emerging and aspiring young filmmakers (15-25 years) in January 2008. You don’t need experience – just a great idea and a passion for film For more information contact ICE on (02) 9897 5744 or via email

Seminars & masterclasses

DIGITAL FUTURES – a special seminar on the future of digital media – and its impact on economy and culture – will take place in Parramatta in March 2008. It will feature some of Australia’s leading thinkers in this field, as well as perspectives from Parramattta exploring implications for the local area.

Throughout 2008, there will be a range of arts seminars

Resources and publications

SCOUT – a resource for filmmakers to navigate the process of shooting and producing work in Parramatta. A one-stop-shop of information about procedures, planning, approvals – as well as lots of creative tips and local insights.

Switch – facilities & support

By 2009, ICE will be relocating to a new premises to usher in a whole new era for Switch Multimedia and Digital Arts Access Centre. Parramatta Screening enables ICE to provide a special weekly session for film and screen artists to have access to Switch facilities at greatly reduced rates, overseen by an industry professional, who will be able to provide advice, feedback and information to filmmakers utilising the facilities.

MIX & REMIX: Shoot It! and Cut It!

In 2009-10, Parramatta Screening will embark on an innovative series of activities that will enable local artists and media-makers to gain high-level skills while working on a creative collaborative project:

STORYLAB – an intensive for screenwriters will be happening in early 2009. Local artists will participate in screenwriting workshops. Participants will be encouraged to submit scripts for Shoot It! and Cut It.

SHOOT IT! is a hands-on directing, camera-craft and production skills lab, which will provide training and mentoring from industry professionals in various aspects of film production while shooting a script.

CUT IT! is an intensive editing and post-production skills program, providing training and mentoring from industry professionals. Participants in the program will work with the digital footage from SHOOT IT!, cutting together their own interpretation of the material.

ICE is always on the lookout for interested film and media makers to get involved. For more information about Parramatta Screening, contact Caitlin at ICE on (02) 9897 5744, or by email
